Empowering Dreams Through Scholarships
Since its establishment in 2017, Norbuling Rigter College (NRC) has remained deeply committed to nurturing talent and supporting students through meaningful scholarship opportunities. Scholarships at NRC are not just financial assistance; they are a recognition of potential, dedication, and promise.
Although comprehensive records from 2017 to 2020 are unavailable, between 2021 and 2025 alone, the College invested Nu. 17.87 million in scholarships across a wide range of categories. These include Academic Excellence, Tarayana, Games and Sports, Voice of Bhutan, Palden Drukpa, and targeted support for students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
At NRC, scholarships celebrate more than grades. They honour academic excellence, talent, leadership, initiative, and the drive to make a difference. Through these awards, the College seeks to inspire young minds, empower future leaders, and ensure that financial constraints never stand in the way of potential.
The scholarships offered by NRC include:
1. Ugyen Phintsho Memorial Scholarship for Academic Excellence
Late Ugyen Phintsho, Proprietor and CEO of the Kuen-Gaa Group of Companies, was a visionary entrepreneur and a passionate advocate for education. NRC stands as his brainchild, an enduring testament to his belief in empowering young minds through quality higher education.
In honour of his remarkable contribution to education and to the nation through private sector leadership and initiative, the Ugyen Phintsho Memorial Scholarship for Academic Excellence is awarded annually to one outstanding student who demonstrated exceptional academic merit in his/her Class XII. This scholarship celebrates excellence, vision, and legacy – values that continue to shape the spirit of NRC.
The scholarship offers a full three-year package covering tuition, food, and accommodation, providing students with complete financial support throughout their studies and is subject to applicable terms and conditions.
2. Kuen-Gaa Group of Companies Scholarship for Talent
The Kuen-Gaa Group of Companies, the proud investor of NRC, celebrates students whose strengths extend beyond the classroom. This scholarship recognises exceptional talent demonstrated through leadership, sports, volunteerism, cultural engagement, and active participation during school and college years.
Awarded annually to one deserving student, the scholarship honours individuals who show initiative, commitment, and the ability to inspire others through their talents and service. This scholarship affirms NRC’s belief that true excellence lies not only in academic achievement, but also in character, contribution, and creativity.
The scholarship offers a three-year package covering free tuition fees and is subject to applicable terms and conditions.
3. Tuition Fee Waivers for Academic Performance
The Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme celebrates growth, effort, and perseverance. By rewarding academic improvement each semester, the College recognises every student’s journey, not just top scores. This initiative motivates students to overcome challenges, stay focused, and continue learning with dedication. It also eases financial pressures, allowing students to invest fully in their studies and personal development.
At NRC, through this scheme, the college not only supports academic success but also cultivates a mindset of perseverance, resilience, and continuous self-improvement, qualities that will serve students long beyond their college years.
The waiver is applied in the following semester based on the student’s performance.
| Academic Performance (Current Semester) | Tuition Fee Waiver (Next Semester) |
| 80% and above aggregate result | 50% waiver |
| Improvement of 8% or more | 25% waiver |
| Improvement of 6% or more | 15% waiver |
4. Other Scholarships
NRC offers a variety of scholarships to recognise talent, reward excellence, and support students in financial need.
4.1. 50% Tuition Fee Waiver: Available through organisations such as Tarayana and RENEW, and others.
4.2. Financially Disadvantaged: NRC offers scholarships to students who excel academically but are unable to continue their studies due to financial constraints. This initiative reflects the College’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its belief in providing equal educational opportunities. By supporting talented students who face economic challenges, NRC ensures that all children have the chance to pursue their education alongside peers with greater financial means.
These scholarships celebrate achievement, inspire students to reach their potential, and reflect NRC’s commitment to excellence, inclusivity, and holistic success.
