Outstanding 80% & above A

Shows thorough understanding of the question, backed by extensive reading. Demonstrates originality in analysis and problem-solving, presents arguments clearly, and effectively synthesises concepts, knowledge, and theory with exceptional insight and critical thinking.

Very good 70% – 79.9% B

Demonstrates clear understanding of the question and key issues, supported by relevant readings. Shows a thorough grasp of theoretical and conceptual concepts, presents answers coherently and in a balanced manner, and recognises underlying assumptions. Exhibits strong analytical and evaluative skills, effectively addressing the issues raised with clarity and critical insight.

Average 60% – 69.9% C

Shows general understanding of the question and main issues, with limited reference to reading. Demonstrates basic conceptual and theoretical knowledge, presents points clearly, shows some analytical ability, and displays awareness of the value positions required by the question.

Satisfactory 50% – 59.9% D

Limited understanding of the question set. Discusses some of the main points/issues raised by the question. Limited reference to reading. Some understanding of concepts – limited but accurate factual information. Muddled/unclear presentation. Unsupported value statements.

Fail 49.9% & Below E

Unsatisfactory standard. Some attempt to address issues in the question but which do not quite meet the criteria outlined for an acceptable answer. Marks in this range will be awarded for wrong or negligible answers and non-response.
